Dahlias prefer a full sun to part shade position, and make great cut-flowers. Flowers usually take 120 days to bloom once planted, and with deadheading will flower for months from Summer into Autumn, until the first frost.
Supplied as a dormant tuber.
Planting instructions:
Plant dormant tuber once frosts have passed.
Plant in a sunny location.
Dahlias like well-drained sandy soil with a pH of 6.5-7.
Dahlias need to spaced 30-45cm apart to grow throughout the Summer.
Plant dahlia tubers at a depth of 10-15cm, and lie the tuber horizontal with the eye (if visible) looking up.
Don’t water dahlias until the plants have sprouted their first true leaves (to avoid rotting).
Throughout the Summer, dahlias require a lot of water and prefer to be watered by drip irrigation.
Cutting the crown out of the dahlia plant when around 30cm high is advised to promote growth.
